DEVELOPMENT BANK OF JAMAICA

Jamaica Venture Capital Programme

PROJECT MANAGER

FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE

JAMAICAN PRIVATE  EQUITY  &  VENTURE  CAPITAL  ASSOCIATION

BACKGROUND

The Development Bank of Jamaica’s (DBJ’s) strategy gives focus not only to facilitating access to credit, but also access to equity, via the Jamaica Venture Capital Programme (JVCP), in order to provide long term financing solutions for high potential businesses. With a focus on facilitating economic growth, the programme seeks to foster the development of a dynamic ecosystem for private equity and venture capital (VC) investing in Jamaica.

The JVCP received technical assistance funding in 2013 and again in 2016, from the Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), and the strategic plan being implemented focuses on closing the gaps identified in the ecosystem, including gaps in knowledge and information, entrepreneurship and investment, as well as institutional inadequacies.

The project components developed to address the ecosystem gaps include:

  • Component 1:   Stakeholder Training and Awareness Building
  • Component 2:   Creating a Deal Flow of Investment Ready Entrepreneurs
  • Component 3:   Promotion of Equity Financing
  • Component 4:   Knowledge Management and Communications
